Whatareallypleasantsurprise.IfBarrioBrawlerreallyisfromTheAsylum,theyhavefinallyshownthattheyhaveamoviethatisactuallymorethandecentinthem.Before,thebestoftheirmovieswereonlywatchableandmediocreandwouldwarranta6atmost.Mostofthetimethough,TheAsylum'soutputisjustterriblethatmighthavesomenoveltyvaluewhenyouarenotbeinginfuriatedattheirineptitudeandtheirshamelessripping-offofvariousfilmsclassicornot.BarrioBrawlerisareallygoodmovie,onewhereyouhavetocheckafewtimestoseewhetheritreallywasdistributedbyTheAsylum.Therearenoobviousrip-offsandeffortisactuallyevident.Thestoryisnotthemostoriginalandisalittlepredictableattimes,andthemoviesometimesfeelsrushed.However,it'sslicklyshot,theslowmotiontechnique(amnotusuallyafan)beingputtoauthenticuseinthefightsequences.Thedialogueissmart,well-meaningandflowswell,evenifsomeoftheSpanishidiomsmaygoovertheheadsofthosenotfamiliarwiththem.ThestoryisstilldeLiveredwithenergyandalotofheartwithsomenicefreshtwistsinthemix.Thecharactersareonesthatyoucanidentifywith,theleadcharacterCarlosinparticularisaverywell-roundedandwrittencharacter,bothlikableandconflicted.Thefightsequencesarespiritedandverywell-choreographed,lookingallfastandsmooth.Thelocationsareminimalbutbynomeanscheap.Theactingisgreat,MarcoAntonioAlvarezandDennisRuelareperfectasCarlosandRickyandO.G.DaveRivera'sMoralesisasnakeineverymeaningoftheword.Overall,reallygood,easilythebestthatTheAsylumhasdoneandbyaclearmiletoo.8/10BethanyCox
